Six Appeal

Will Manchester City make the most of their favourable GW37 fixtures?

Fantasy Premier League managers have a Double Gameweek to look forward to and there is only one place to start, with newly crowned champions’ Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s charges, who remain on course to smash through the 100 point barrier for a 38 game season, have the pick of the GW37 fixtures. Home games against Huddersfield Town and Brighton and Hove Albion don’t look too taxing on paper, so they should be able to build on the 102 goals they have amassed so far and this is reflected in our latest Goal Projections.

EPL Goals - GW37

The Citizens are expected to score over 6 goals across the 2 fixtures, leaving Fantasy Premier League managers spoilt for choice.

A fit Sergio Agüero would have been the standout GW37 captaincy pick but he misses out again due to his ongoing knee injury, opening the door for his team-mates to fill the void.

Raheem Sterling, who provided 3 assists on his latest start looks the pick of the bunch based on our GW37 Armband Rankings, while Kevin de Bruyne is sure to be in the thick of the action and can never be discounted.

Sterling’s sensational form means that he won’t have to sweat on a phone call from Gareth Southgate in the summer but he could easily be forgiven for taking his foot off the gas and having one eye on those upcoming finals. For this reason alone, perhaps Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sané make a bit more appeal. Both are expected to make their respective World Cup squads but neither is a guaranteed starter so they will surely be keen to make the most of any opportunities that come their way now between now and the end of the season.

GW37 Contribution Expectancy (Goals & Assists)
Player 0 1 2 3+
Harry Kane 11.13% 24.44% 26.83% 37.61%
Raheem Sterling 15.58% 28.96% 26.93% 28.54%
Leroy Sané 19.24% 31.71% 26.13% 22.92%
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 21.70% 33.16% 25.33% 19.81%
Christian Eriksen 22.40% 33.51% 25.07% 19.01%
Kevin De Bruyne 23.40% 33.99% 24.68% 17.93%
Gabriel Jesus 23.88% 34.20% 24.49% 17.43%
Dele Alli 24.38% 34.41% 24.28% 16.92%
Eden Hazard 24.57% 34.49% 24.20% 16.73%
David Silva 24.62% 34.51% 24.18% 16.69%
Álvaro Morata 25.29% 34.77% 23.90% 16.04%
Son Heung-min 25.34% 34.79% 23.88% 15.99%

There is also Guardiola’s rotation policy to factor in.

Bernardo Silva could easily eat into the game minutes of Jesus and/or Sané, while the City coach might also look to blood a few youngsters in the Citizens’ final home game. The likes of Phil Foden and Okeksandr Zinchenko will also be hoping for game time and veteran midfielder Yaya Touré looks sure to feature at some point, as his City career winds down.

The obvious alternative is the top-ranked Harry Kane, who finished the 2016/17 Premier League season in such devastating fashion.

A repeat would be most welcome for any manager that entrusts him with the armband this week but can you really go against City with their ‘six appeal’?
