Lukaku To Send Baggies Packing

Can Romelu Lukaku sieze his chance in Gameweek 28 ?

With just 4 Premier League matches scheduled to take place in Gameweek 28, captaincy options are expected to be a little bit thin on the ground.

This is, however, a great chance for Romelu Lukaka to jump to the top of the Golden Boot standings. None of the other leading contenders will be in action during Gameweek 28, so the Belgian striker, who trails Harry Kane by 1 goal, will be looking to make the most of the opportunity.

Everton’s number 10 is averaging an impressive 7.51 on WhoScored this season and the club have been boosted by the news that Lukaku is set to sign a contract extension.

Lukaku is now Everton’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League, after surpassing Duncan Ferguson’s tally, although, it’s worth remembering that there was life before the Premier League era began.

Lukaku just edges Sadio Mané in the GW28 ‘Captometer’ rankings, which estimate the contribution expectancies for each player, in terms of goals and assists.

Mane is one of a number of Liverpool players that are viable armband alternatives to Everton’s imposing striker this weekend.

Burnley, who have collected just 2 points away from home, are the visitors to Anfield and this looks like a great chance for the Reds to exact revenge, after going down 2-0 at Turf Moor earlier in the season.

Roberto Firmino has completed 90 minutes in his last 7 Premier League starts and is clearly more of an attacking threat when he plays as a central striker rather than in one of the wide attacking roles, while Adam Lallana is, perhaps surprisingly, still looking for his first goal of the calendar year.

Philippe Coutinho is slowly getting back to his best after recovering from injury but game minutes remains a concern and Jürgen Klopp may look to preserve his playmaker for next weekend’s clash with Manchester City, a game that could be pivotal in the race for those coveted Champions League spots.

Mane has returned from African Cup of Nations in splendid form and is likely to be fighting it out with Lukaku for which player is ‘most-captained’ in Gameweek 28.

Lukaku will have fond memories of his time at West Bromwich Albion, having scored a hat-trick for the Baggies in Alex Ferguson’s last game as Manchester United manager, an epic 5-5 draw. However, the 23 year-old forward is unlikely to have too much sentiment this weekend, as he looks to jump to the top of the goal-scoring charts!
